wouldn’t it be grand to be a food writer? cook all day and then write about it. (and get paid doing it!)

i saw the corporation a couple of nights ago. i highly, highly recommend it. i only wish they had expanded on the role of the WTO and particularly TRIPS (trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights) in their commentary. and perhaps a little less michael moore and more howard zinn. nevertheless, it was wonderfully put together.

meanwhile in the news, saddam hussein’s trial has begun, and nowhere on the list of charges against him are his extensive war crimes against iranians, the effects of which can easily still be seen today. it really is a shame, to say the least. why are these charges missing? was the mass use of chemical weapons against iranian civilians and soldiers not a flagrant violation of international law? was hussein not the aggressor? is it possible the western powers’ complicity has something to do with it?

  1. I saw it in class a few weeks ago. I felt it was too long (but that might have just been because the room was really hot and stuffy). I loved the comparison of the corporation to that of a sociopath (or was it a psychopath). Either way, there was a lot I didn’t know regarding the origins of corporations.

  2. me too – i loved the psychopath comparison. it was pretty long (i couldn’t watch it in one sitting), but it was certainly worth it.

i kind of feel like they threw michael moore in there more to sell the film than for any other reason though.

  3. the picture of the garlic risotto with calamari and parmesan crisps… ummmm… ummmm… DAMN!!!!!!!!! that looks amazing! wow… i’m drooling. *wipes chin*

i’ve only seen the last half of the corporation, but it is very good. there were things that could have been added, but i like how it was put together.

as for hussein’s trial… it is wrong that he is not being charged with crimes against iran. not to sound like a conspiricy theorist, but based on america’s history with hussein, especially during the ’80s… i would assume there is a lot of info the government doesn’t want to admit. kind of like why manuel noreiga has been in prison for like 15+ years without a trial… it is a damn shame because hussein should be held responsible for all of his crimes.

  4. exactly. the infamous photo of donald rumsfeld shaking hands with hussein in the 80′s comes to mind.

  5. The jerk chicken looks delicious, how spicy did you make it ?

  6. thanks asad; it wasn’t very spicy. just a couple of serrano chiles for heat along with the other spices. next time i may add a bit more.

ps – your blog is feeding my travel obsession. ;)
