this update will consist of what most of my entries are about: food. for mother’s day brunch, i made the following:

shrimp purses. next time i’ll use shiu mai wrappers instead of gyoza wrappers.

artichoke bread pudding. this was my first time tasting and making a bread pudding. i wasn’t a huge fan (although the gruyere added a nice touch), but my family liked it.

pistachio and almond biscotti. i don’t normally like biscotti much, but this came out very good, in my humble opinion.

brunch was served with hawaiian vanilla macadamia coffee. mmm, hawaii.

on monday dom and i decided to go ice skating. we both hadn’t gone since we were kids, but i think we picked up pretty quickly. we each had a bit of a nasty fall, but aside from that, it was a great time. on the way there i became entrhalled with the massive globe at zeum:

in an effort to push as much activity as we can into the weeks left before i move out of san francisco for the time being, we played pool on tuesday. in keeping with the theme of engaging in sports that i like but aren’t very good at, i found myself losing game after game. at least i improved a bit by the end of the third game.

that evening we cooked meatballs layered with tomato and mozzarella:

the anchovies added a wonderful touch, melting into the cheese. we served them with basil-garlic rotelle with marinara and garlic bread.

delicious.
