darioush
i took my family to the new darioush winery today. its not completed yet, but from the looks of it so far its gorgeous. the owner, who is iranian, made no qualms about hiding the cultural and architectural roots of the winery. its designed to be a replica of part of persepolis, the ancient capital of the persian empire.
after i made brunch for everyone, we were off:

birthday brunch: caviar, crabcakes, wild mushroom-filled beggar’s purses, chicken liver pate, soft gingerbread cookies

the entrance to the winery

smaller replicas of the original columns at apadana palace

fountains | the inside of the winery was filled with hand-painted persian tiles like this one | replica statue of king darioush I

even the column carvings were accurate replicas | flora against the stone added a nice touch | a photography book of persepolis. the wine tasting room was filled with books about persian gardens, persian cooking, persian poetry, persepolis and so on.

while it wasn’t the real thing (nothing can replace the feeling and awe of visiting persepolis), it was beautiful nevertheless.
the past couple of days:
breakfast: caviar, crabcakes, mushroom-filled beggar’s purses, pate, gingerbread cookies
lunch: mushroom and sausage garlic pizza
dinner: sushi; chelo kabab and green salad
snack: french fries
beverage: cola, orange juice
